The Book of Proverbs
The Book of Proverbs is a collection of proverbs compiled and written by Solomon, the son of the Prophet, King David. As a young man, Solomon prayed to God, “Give me wisdom to rule your people with justice and to distinguish between good and evil” (1 Kings 1:7). And God answered his prayer, giving King Solomon a special and rare wisdom. The Book of Proverbs gives "insight to the simple, and knowledge and discernment to the young.” It makes the wise even wiser. The frequent references to "my son", meaning “my child”, underlines its focus on providing instruction to the young. Yet, these proverbs are a guide for everyone. They reveal a way of life that brings rich rewards.
