The Israelites spent forty years in the desert and again water ran out. God told Moses to speak to the rock, but he disobeyed and struck it twice. Water came out but Moses was punished. Then the Lord had sent snakes to kill the people, but later told Moses to make a bronze snake on a pole, and those who looked on it lived.
