Christ commanded his followers to go, make disciples, baptising them and teaching them His commands. The waters of baptism are a sign that your sin and your old self is washed away. However, spiritually we are cleansed from the moment of our new birth, as only the blood of Jesus can purify us from sin. Baptism, then, is a public declaration of our faith.
