Although Solomon had built the temple, his many wives turned him from the Lord. After him, the kingdom was divided into Israel and Judah. Israel’s worst king Ahab’s wife, Jezebel, had set up Baal worship. Drought came through Elijah’s prophecy and he confronted and killed the prophets of Baal when their sacrifice failed, but God sent fire on Elijah’s altar and the people turned to the Lord.
