Sarah gave her maid Hagar to Abraham, and so Ishmael was born. God promised he would be a great nation. 14 years later Isaac was born, the son of promise. Sarah told Abraham to cast out Hagar and her son, which he did. Isaac had two sons, Esau and Jacob. The promise continued through Jacob, then his son Judah, and finally to Jesus.
