Messiah, or Christ in Greek, means anointed one. The prophet Micah predicted Messiah would be born in Bethlehem, as Jesus was, of David’s line. To anoint means to pour oil over the head, a sign of the Holy Spirit appointing and empowering a person for God’s ministry. Christ was anointed with the Holy Spirit at his baptism, when God spoke from heaven, affirming Jesus as his Son.
